Work has begun on laying a fiber-optic communication cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Sputnik Kazakhstan, citing the official website of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the seabed was previously studied, and an optimal route bypassing anchorages and military training areas was determined.
In China, a special armored cable with ROPA-type optical amplifiers was manufactured and successfully passed factory tests.
The optical cable was first delivered to the Kuryk port. There it was loaded onto a logistics vessel and delivered to Baku.
Today, the entire digital artery has been successfully placed in a special cable tank on the vessel.
Thus, the vessel left the port of Baku and began construction of the line towards the port of Aktau, the official statement said.
To accomplish this complex task, the most powerful cable-laying vessel with a displacement of over 20 thousand tons was involved.
On board the vessel, 70 crew members are working, including technical supervision specialists and a representative of Kazakhtelecom.
If weather conditions are favorable, it is planned to complete the direct laying of the underwater cable within 15–20 days.
The overall timeframe for all technological work and commissioning is set until the end of 2026, the specialists noted.
