Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has created a commission for a comprehensive inspection of the state of affairs at the Ministry of Defense. Among other things, it will study the financial and logistical support of military units. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The commission must present its first results within seven days. This is stated in the order of the head of state published on the official website of Akorda.
Commission composition
The commission is headed by Deputy Chair of the Security Council Aida Balayeva. Its deputy head is the Chairman of the Supreme Audit Chamber Alikhan Smailov. The composition also includes Finance Minister Madi Takiyev, head of the Financial Monitoring Agency Zhanat Elimanov, representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Security Council, the Prosecutor General's Office, the National Security Committee and the Ministry of National Economy.
The document came into force on September 26, the day of signing.
Circumstances of the tragedy
The order was issued after a tragedy during military exercises in the Mangystau region. 17 servicemen were carried into the Caspian Sea, 14 of them died. The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated by a separate government commission led by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that five officers of the Kazakh Defense Ministry were detained in the case of the death of sailors. The criminal case, initiated under articles on negligence and violation of navigation rules, is under special control of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The day before, families of the victims were given telegrams of condolences from the president, and the head of the Defense Ministry met with the relatives of the sailors.
