In September 2026, the largest increase in retail deposits among Kazakh banks was recorded at Kaspi Bank. Over the month, the bank's retail deposit volume grew by 93.9 billion tenge. Freedom Bank took second place, followed by Otbasy Bank in third. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
As of October 1, the volume of retail deposits across all Kazakh banks reached 30.67 trillion tenge. In September, the indicator grew by only 14.3 billion tenge, or 0.05%. At the same time, some banks saw significant growth in their deposit base, while others faced a contraction.
Kaspi Bank leads in growth
Kaspi Bank became the leader in absolute deposit growth. In September, the bank's retail deposits increased by 93.9 billion tenge, or 1.2%, to 7.92 trillion tenge. This is almost 3.5 times more than its closest competitor in terms of growth.
Freedom Bank took second place, with its deposit base growing by 27.2 billion tenge, or 2.5%, to 1.1 trillion tenge. Otbasy Bank ranked third with an increase of 26.2 billion tenge, or 0.8%, to 3.48 trillion tenge.
Fourth and fifth places
Home Credit Bank took fourth position. Its retail deposit volume grew by 24.9 billion tenge, or 3.8%, to 680.1 billion tenge. Among the four largest recipients of new funds by balance growth, Home Credit showed the highest dynamics in percentage terms.
The top five was rounded out by Islamic bank ADCB, where deposit volume increased by 3.1 billion tenge, or 66.9%, to 7.9 billion tenge. Such a high percentage growth is explained by the bank's relatively small deposit base.
Contraction of the deposit base
The most notable contraction of the deposit base occurred at Bank RBK. In September, the bank's retail deposits decreased by 78.3 billion tenge, or 8.5%, to 841.4 billion tenge.
ForteBank ranked second in terms of deposit contraction, with the indicator falling by 19.8 billion tenge to 1.56 trillion tenge. It is followed by Bank CenterCredit with a decrease of 19.3 billion tenge, Alatau City Bank by 18.1 billion tenge, and Halyk Bank by 13 billion tenge.
Thus, despite deposit growth at Kaspi, Freedom and other banks, the overall increase in retail deposits in September was insignificant due to a decline in balances at a number of market participants.
Halyk Bank retains leadership by total volume
At the same time, Halyk Bank retained its leadership in total retail deposits with a figure of 8.05 trillion tenge. Kaspi Bank lagged behind it by about 128.6 billion tenge.
Changes in deposit balances do not necessarily mean an inflow or outflow of new money in the same amount. The indicators may also be affected by accrued interest, currency revaluation and transfers between accounts.
Recall that in August 2026, the volume of retail deposits in Kazakh banks grew by 132.8 billion tenge, or 0.4%, to 30.66 trillion tenge. ForteBank received the largest inflow, while depositors withdrew the most funds from Halyk Bank.
