The YE (Kanye West) concert in Almaty drew 31,000 attendees, including about 7,700 tourists from more than 50 countries and territories. Organizers estimated the economic impact of the tourist flow at approximately 5 billion tenge. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The show took place on August 15 at the Central Stadium in Almaty as part of the artist's international tour. The city became the only stop of the YE tour in Central Asia so far.
According to organizers, among foreign guests were about 2,000 fans who follow the artist's world tour and attend his concerts in different countries. Viewers came to Almaty from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, UAE, USA, China, UK, Germany, Australia, and other countries.
From August 13 to 16, the average occupancy of accommodation facilities in Almaty was about 98%, said Galia Tokseitova, head of the city tourism department.
"The holding of the YE concert and the high demand for tourist services confirm the potential of event tourism and its importance for the development of the tourism industry and the city's economy," she noted.
Initially, the concert was scheduled for August 14, but due to worsening weather conditions, the artist's team decided to postpone the show to the next day. Organizers explained the decision by the need to ensure the safety of spectators, the artist, and participants. All purchased tickets remained valid.
Preparation for the concert in Almaty took about a month. Stage and technical infrastructure at the Central Stadium was assembled in five days. The spherical structure, which became the central element of YE's scenography, was assembled in one of the shortest times among tour venues, according to organizers.
Alfia Nurgumarova, managing director of First Media Group, said that after the postponement, the team actually had to prepare the venue for the show a second time within a day.
"We had only a month to prepare this project. During this time, the Kazakh team went from the first technical solutions to a fully ready stadium show with the most complex scenography, international logistics, and world tour requirements," Nurgumarova noted.
To hold the concert in Almaty, one large cargo aircraft and seven euro trucks with equipment from the artist's international team were delivered. Additional equipment was brought from Almaty, Astana, and Moscow.
The stadium was equipped with sound, lighting, projection, and stage equipment. Four additional technical towers were placed outside the stands, and sound systems were distributed around the perimeter of the stadium's inner bowl. A separate complex of 17 tents and eight dressing rooms was also prepared for the artist's team.
On the day of the concert, more than 4,400 people worked at the venue, including security and safety officers, police, city and medical services, technical and production teams, stadium staff, ticket operator, and service services.
The concert was organized by First Media Group in partnership with Freedom Holding Corp., with Freedom Afisha as the official ticket operator. According to the service's CEO Ulan Kairbekov, the platform served both Kazakhstani and foreign buyers, including accepting payments with foreign bank cards.
Dismantling of the concert infrastructure began immediately after the performance. Most of the work at the Central Stadium has been completed, with the removal of remaining equipment and final technical work ongoing.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that after the postponement of Kanye West's concert from August 14 to 15, an Almaty resident Oleg came up with a humorous merch with the new date. In a day, he received more than 200 requests, managed to produce a batch of 46 T-shirts and, according to him, fully recouped the production and additionally earned money for one concert ticket.
