In the 33rd minute, the referee initially awarded a penalty to Qatar for a rough tackle, but after a VAR review, he overturned his decision. Nevertheless, before halftime, the Canadians scored a third goal — in stoppage time, David completed his brace.
In the second half, the match was interrupted due to a serious injury to Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné. After a harsh tackle by Assim Madibo, the Canadian suffered a severe leg injury and left the field on a stretcher, later being hospitalized. After a VAR review, the referee changed Madibo's yellow card to a straight red, leaving Qatar with ten men. According to media reports, Koné is suspected to have a broken leg.
Canada quickly capitalized on the numerical advantage. In the 64th minute, Nathan Saliba scored a powerful shot from outside the box to make it 4-0, then dedicated the goal to his injured teammate by holding up his jersey. In the 75th minute, Qatar defender Al-Mannai scored an own goal, and in stoppage time, David completed his hat-trick to seal the final score.
Statistically, Canada had 33 shots on goal compared to Qatar's three, and earned 19 corner kicks while Qatar had only one.
With this victory, Canada earned four points and significantly boosted their chances of advancing to the playoffs. In the final round, the tournament hosts will face Switzerland, while Qatar will meet Bosnia and Herzegovina.
