At least 25 people, mostly teenagers, were killed in a passenger bus accident in a mountainous area on Fogo Island in Cape Verde. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday on the Campanas de Cima route on Fogo Island. According to local authorities and media, a passenger bus was involved in an accident, and several people were injured.

The President of Cape Verde, José Maria Pereira Neves, called the incident "a great catastrophe" in a statement on his Facebook page.

Local media, citing the island's health authorities, reported that seven bodies were immediately buried due to their condition. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined by the authorities.

According to a local news agency, the president and some other officials are expected to visit the island on Sunday.
