In Kabardino-Balkaria (Russia), an avalanche hit a group of 33 climbers. As a result, 11 people died, and six more were injured and taken to hospitals. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Interfax.

The tragedy occurred on September 6 at about 17:00 in the Bezengi Gorge. The snow mass came down from the slope of Mount Mizhirgi while the group was passing along the route.
“Unfortunately, 11 people received injuries incompatible with life. Six more people are in medical facilities,” said the head of Kabardino-Balkaria, Kazbek Kokov.
Rescue operation
Ten climbers were able to leave the dangerous zone on their own. The fate of six more people remains unknown. More than 50 emergency workers are involved in the search and rescue operation.
The rescuers' work is complicated by the difficult mountain terrain and the ongoing danger of repeated avalanches.
Investigation
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on negligence. Specialists will have to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine whether the necessary safety measures were observed.
