The Jaecoo J5 crossover, which is set to launch in Kazakhstan in 2026, is preparing for an update. In China, spy photographers have spotted the model for the first time with a lidar on the roof, which may indicate the arrival of a new driver assistance system and a more powerful hybrid setup. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Externally, the Jaecoo J5 has barely changed. The only noticeable difference is the lidar above the windshield.

According to Chinese media, the crossover may receive the proprietary Falcon 700 system. It includes a lidar, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and three millimeter-wave radars. This suite supports point-to-point navigation and auto parking.

A Hybrid badge has appeared on the tailgate, but there is no familiar charging port. This likely refers to a conventional hybrid (HEV) rather than a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Chinese media report that the updated J5 may feature a new Kun Peng 2.0 powertrain. It combines a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a larger battery and produces up to 349 hp. For comparison, the current hybrid delivers 221 hp.

The V2L function is also expected, allowing external electrical devices to be powered directly from the traction battery.

Interestingly, the Jaecoo Kazakhstan official website already lists the J5 model with a "Coming Soon" tag. However, the company has not yet disclosed which version it plans to bring to the local market. It is possible that Kazakhstani customers will get the updated crossover with the new hybrid and advanced driver assistance system.

Previously, Kursiv Avto reported that Astana Motors became the new distributor of Omoda and Jaecoo in Kazakhstan. It also noted that the Chinese Jaecoo 7 became the sales leader in the UK for the first time, surpassing the Ford Puma and Nissan Qashqai.
