In the village of Bédar in Almería province, southern Spain, a wildfire has razed homes to the ground, turning the landscape into "a sea of black". This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing BBC News.

BBC correspondent Nick Beake described the scene at the epicenter of the blaze. "This landscape is completely charred," he said. The fire spread rapidly on Thursday, and hundreds of firefighters have been battling the flames, which have claimed 12 lives.

According to local authorities, wildfires have burned through 6,600 hectares (16,300 acres). A sustained heatwave with temperatures around 40°C (104°F) has caused wildfires across Southern Europe this summer, particularly in France, Portugal and Spain.
