After a suspected case of a highly dangerous infection in Russia's Irkutsk Oblast, preventive measures have been taken at the border of Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Earlier, it was reported that quarantine had been introduced in several medical institutions after the death of a 28-year-old laboratory assistant at the anti-plague institute in the city of Irkutsk.
In a statement from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health: "The situation in Kazakhstan is under constant control, and necessary preventive measures have been taken. Sanitary-quarantine control is being carried out at checkpoints on the state border. Among all types of transport, no persons with elevated body temperature, symptoms of illness, or suspected highly dangerous infection have been identified."
According to specialists' assessments, the risk of the infection being imported into Kazakhstan is low. Nevertheless, it is recommended to seek medical help promptly if symptoms of illness appear after travel.
The ministry noted that Russian specialists are currently conducting an epidemiological investigation. According to preliminary data, the exact cause of death has not yet been established. The possible source of infection and the circumstances of the disease are being studied.
197 people who had contact with the deceased were examined. None of them showed symptoms of the disease, and laboratory test results were negative.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, the sanitary-epidemiological situation in Irkutsk Oblast, the city of Irkutsk, and Shelekhov is currently stable. No cases of plague infection have been registered.
