Iran has demanded compensation for damage caused by a Ukrainian strike on an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi after a phone call with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Araghchi, the Ukrainian minister assured him that the attack on the ship was unintentional and that Kyiv does not seek further escalation.
"Iran also does not seek escalation. However, we have made it clear that any attacks on our citizens or our interests are unacceptable. The damage caused must be compensated," Araghchi said.
Sybiha, in turn, said he called on Tehran to refrain from actions that could lead to an aggravation of the situation, as well as to stop supporting Russia. He emphasized that Ukraine's actions are aimed at defending the country.
Recall that on July 25, a Ukrainian strike hit an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea. An explosion occurred on board, killing one crew member and injuring another.
