Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and will remain so until further notice. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Reuters.
State media reported that the IRGC navy warned of the closure. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway through which about one-fifth of the world's oil passes. The reasons for this decision are not yet clear, but tensions in the region remain high.
