A farewell ceremony is underway in Tehran for Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a strike by Israel and the US. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Authorities had expected at least 15 million people to attend the ceremony. Among the mourners are not only Tehran residents but also people who came from across Iran. "No one forced us; we came here voluntarily. I came from Khuzestan," said a citizen named Sheikh.

The coffin with the ayatollah's body has been brought to Azadi Square, which is already packed with people, and more are gathering. Tomorrow, Tuesday, a farewell ceremony will be held in the city of Qom, and on July 8, Khamenei's body will be taken to the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Najaf, and Karbala. On July 9, it will be returned to his homeland — his hometown of Mashhad, where he will be buried. Khamenei was killed on February 28 during US and Israeli strikes on Tehran.
