Iran has announced the funeral dates for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 during the first US and Israeli strikes on the country. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Fars news agency, the farewell ceremony for the late supreme leader will begin on July 4 in Tehran, four months after his death.
It is specified that along with Ali Khamenei, his wife, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and granddaughter were also killed. As part of the mourning events, a farewell to Khamenei and his relatives will take place in the capital. The ceremony in Tehran will last until July 6.
Then the mourning procession will continue across the country: on July 7, a procession will be held in the holy city of Qom for Shiites, and on July 9, the final ceremony will take place in Mashhad, the ayatollah's hometown. There he will be buried in the mausoleum of Imam Reza.
Initially, the farewell was scheduled for March 4 and was supposed to last three days, but it was postponed. Authorities explained this by the large number of people wishing to say goodbye to the leader.
The report also notes that everyone is invited to the ceremony — residents of Iran, adherents of Islamic values, and those who are close to the country.
Official authorities emphasized that this will be a large-scale mourning event uniting people from around the world.
Recall that Ali Khamenei ruled the country for almost 40 years and died as a result of an Israeli strike on a residence in Tehran on February 28.
On that day, the US and Israel announced a joint military operation against Iran. Israel gave it the code name "Roar of the Lion," and the US — "Epic Fury."
The successor to the slain supreme leader of Iran was his 56-year-old son Mojtaba Khamenei.
