Kazakhstan may introduce administrative liability for profanity on the internet. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov responded to a parliamentary inquiry requesting a legal and ethical assessment of the public use of profanity at trainings and events positioned as educational.
"To date, a draft law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Amendments and Additions to the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offences regarding Online Platforms and Mass Media' has been developed. The draft law provides for the establishment of administrative liability for profanity on online platforms by supplementing the aforementioned Article 434 of the Administrative Code. The draft law will be considered by the legislative body this year (it is planned to be submitted to the legislative body in June of this year)," Bektenov said.
The head of government reminded that current legislation already provides for liability for profanity in public places and other actions that violate public order.
"Such behavior entails a fine of twenty monthly calculation indices or community service for a period of 20 to 60 hours, or administrative arrest for a period of five to 15 days," the prime minister noted.
According to Bektenov, the proposed amendments will extend similar norms to online platforms. The draft law is planned to be submitted to parliament in June, and its consideration is expected by the end of this year.
