The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan issued a statement amid the recording of provocative posts and comments on social networks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The supervisory authority reminded of criminal and administrative liability for inciting social hatred and spreading fakes.
According to Article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, actions aimed at inciting hatred are punishable by: a fine of 2,000 to 7,000 monthly calculation indices (MCI); restriction or deprivation of liberty for 2 to 20 years (the specific measure depends on the severity of the act).
In addition, legislation strictly prohibits posting illegal content on any online platforms. If the user's actions do not fall under a criminal article, administrative punishment is applied: violators face a fine of 20 MCI (according to Part 3-1 of Article 456-2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
The Prosecutor General's Office strongly recommends that citizens verify the accuracy of published information. For creating and disseminating false data, two levels of liability are provided: Administrative (Part 3 of Article 456-2 of the Administrative Code) — for posting and spreading false information; Criminal (Article 274 of the Criminal Code) — for spreading knowingly false information.
The department emphasized that legal consequences will apply not only to the direct authors of provocative materials but also to those citizens who knowingly participate in their dissemination (make reposts).
Law enforcement agencies will continue to work in an enhanced mode. In compliance with the principle of "Law and Order," the department will strictly suppress any offenses that threaten public safety, stability, and social harmony in the state.
