At least 47 people have died in an earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Rescuers are continuing to search for people trapped under rubble and landslides after the earthquake. The quake struck on August 15 in the city of Maumere, and on August 16 aid is being provided in the districts of Lembor, Mbeliling, and Labuan Bajo.
According to Associated Press photographer Firdia Lisnawati, residents affected by the earthquake are standing outside their homes, inspecting the damage. At a hospital in Labuan Bajo, patients are being treated in the hallway.
Photos released by the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) show rescuers searching for victims in damaged buildings.
The exact magnitude and epicenter of the earthquake have not yet been reported. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the death toll may rise.
