An Indonesian ferry carrying 271 people caught fire in waters off the main island of Java on Sunday, leaving at least five people dead and dozens missing. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Rescuers and passing vessels evacuated hundreds from the burning ship. 229 people were brought to Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, East Java.
The fire occurred on the vessel Mutiara Santosa 2. The incident was recorded off the coast of Madura Island. Rescuers are continuing to search for possible missing passengers.
