A ferry caught fire off the coast of Indonesia's Madura Island on Sunday morning, killing five people and leaving 41 missing. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Reuters, the vessel was traveling from the port of Surabaya to the city of Makassar when the incident occurred. There were approximately 270 passengers and crew members on board, of whom 225 were rescued.
"At least five people were killed and 41 are missing after a ferry caught fire off the coast of Indonesia's Madura Island," the agency said in a statement.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, according to the agency. Rescuers continue to search for the missing.
