Russian travel blogger Ilya Varlamov released a film about domestic violence in Kazakhstan. The reaction split social media: some men thanked him, while others resented foreign interference. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In the comments under the film and on Ilya Varlamov's Threads, there were enough men who thanked him for the release and stated that beating women and children is unacceptable. "A man from Kazakhstan. I agree that Varlamov is doing the right thing by highlighting this problem. The main thing is that people have enough brains not to generalize all men in Kazakhstan, but to focus on such animals who engage in this to combat domestic violence," noted user Valikhan.
Nevertheless, a huge number of commenters were outraged that a Russian blogger spoke on such a topical issue. "Yes, but take care of the problems in your country and then you simply won't have time for others," "Ilya, while in Bulgaria, why are you interested in what is happening in our Kazakhstan?)", "Ilya, do you seriously want to discuss the problem of domestic violence in Kazakhstan and not discuss that in Russia they are trying with all their might not to pass a law on criminalizing the article on domestic violence."
Meanwhile, women's comments were mostly positive. They believe that attention to the problem of beatings should be constantly attracted to change the social norm and make "kitchen boxers" untouchable. "The main problem is why they get angry. If we stop being silent, they will no longer be able to beat us," "Everyone who condemns such releases — I know they beat women at home, but I cannot prove it. And it does not matter which country's journalist filmed it," "Thank you, Ilya, Kazakh women are grateful to you for highlighting this ugly problem of society."
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that Ilya Varlamov called Almaty the best city in Central Asia.
