Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov has published a list of roads with the highest number of fatalities. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to official data, half of all deaths are currently registered on roads of republican significance.

Sections with the highest number of fatalities

  • 01Almaty – Tashkent (60 people);
  • 02Almaty – Bishkek (33 people);
  • 03Almaty – Ust-Kamenogorsk (12 people);
  • 04Almaty – Kokpekty – Koktal (17 people);
  • 05Shymkent – Samara (19 people);
  • 06Aktobe – Atyrau (14 people).

According to the minister, only 16 percent of roads meet modern requirements.

"It is necessary to build 6,000 kilometers of category 1 roads. For example, a 4-lane highway has been launched between Karaganda and Almaty. On this section, fatalities decreased by 47 percent," Sadenov said.

A points system for drivers was previously reported to be introduced.
