International Monetary Fund (IMF) President Kristalina Georgieva said Argentina is better positioned to meet its debt obligations under President Javier Milei. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Georgieva met with Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Caputo in Buenos Aires on July 27, 2026. During the meeting, she noted that the country's economic situation has improved and Argentina is capable of repaying its debt to the IMF.
According to Georgieva, Milei's reforms have helped stabilize Argentina's economy and reduce inflation. She also said the IMF is ready to continue cooperation with Argentina.
Argentina currently owes the IMF about $44 billion. The country signed a $57 billion loan program with the IMF in 2018.
