Chinese automaker FAW, which owns the premium brand Hongqi, has unveiled a new generation traction battery. According to the company, the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just 3 minutes and 41 seconds. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The high charging speed is ensured by a new battery platform and an ultra-powerful system. According to developers, the vehicle gains about 400 km of range (CLTC cycle) in a few minutes. The battery also maintains high charging speed even at low temperatures.
The new battery was shown alongside an updated electric platform from Hongqi. The company stated it will become the foundation for future electric vehicles of the brand. Currently, the technology is at the demonstration stage, but FAW plans to introduce it into serial models in the coming years.
In recent months, Chinese automakers have been actively competing in charging speed. Previously, BYD introduced a megawatt system, followed by Zeekr, Huawei, and other companies. Now Hongqi has joined the race.
If such technologies become widespread, the charging time for electric cars will approach that of refueling gasoline cars. However, this will require a new generation of charging station infrastructure.
