Members of Kazakhstan's People's Council are not paid salaries. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
As the People's Council noted, under the law its members work on a voluntary basis. At the same time, the chairman of the People's Council and one of his deputies, who oversees the secretariat, work on a permanent basis.
Their activities are financed from the state budget. The work of the secretariat staff is also paid from the budget.
It was previously reported that 1.7 billion tenge would be allocated in 2027 for the work of Kazakhstan's new consultative body – the People's Council.
Kazakhstan's People's Council combines the functions of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the National Kurultai. The Council is empowered to develop proposals on the main directions of domestic policy and to submit draft laws to the Kurultai.
In addition, the council can initiate a nationwide referendum. It also establishes interaction between the state and civil society.
The highest body of the People's Council is the session, which adopts decisions on key issues.
