Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor has taken first place in Mexico's automotive owner satisfaction ranking, according to the APEAL 2026 study by the American company JD Power. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The brand scored 917 points out of a possible 1,000 and shared the top spot with Japan's Honda, which has held the position for the second year in a row.
The ranking reflects not so much the reliability of individual components as owners' overall impression of the vehicle. The study takes into account:
- 01the vehicle's exterior appearance;
- 02ride comfort;
- 03ease of getting in and out;
- 04other aspects of ownership.
In the mass-market car brand ranking, third place went to Hyundai with 908 points. It was followed by:
- 01China's Chery — 895 points;
- 02Volkswagen — 895 points.
In the premium segment, Volvo led with a result of 927 points. Second place went to GMC (919), and third to BMW (915).
According to JD Power, the average score of Chinese auto brands rose by 22 points over the year. This is the second-largest increase among manufacturing countries after Italy, whose brands added 25 points.
Owners rated the exterior appearance of Chinese cars, ride comfort and ease of getting in and out especially highly. At the same time, results for individual brands vary, so the overall progress of the Chinese auto industry does not mean equally high scores for all its representatives.
Another conclusion of the study concerns satisfaction with different types of powertrains. Conventional hybrids (HEV) received the highest score — 929 points. Plug-in hybrids (PHEV) scored 919 points, while battery electric vehicles (BEV) scored 913.
For comparison, diesel vehicles received 901 points and gasoline vehicles 891. Over the year, the score for hybrids rose by 10 points, while vehicles with internal combustion engines lost nine.
JD Power explains the results by the fact that hybrids combine fuel savings with familiar comfort and driving pleasure.
The APEAL Mexico 2026 study is based on responses from 9,300 owners of 2023–2025 model-year vehicles. The survey was conducted from December 2025 to August 2026.
Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported on eight Chinese auto brands that were highly rated in the UK.
