A Kazakh citizen suspected of large-scale fraud and the production of counterfeit medical devices in large quantities has been extradited from Georgia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
During the investigation, it was established that the suspect organized a scheme to illegally obtain the status of a domestic goods producer in order to gain an advantage in tenders held by state medical organizations for the purchase of medical equipment.
"In particular, without organizing actual production, he submitted false information to authorized state bodies that medical equipment was being produced in Kazakhstan," the statement said.
As a result, medical equipment assembled from foreign components was sold to state medical organizations as domestic products, causing damage to the state amounting to more than 4.5 billion tenge.
After committing the crimes, the suspect went into hiding from criminal prosecution authorities, and was therefore placed on the international wanted list.
In March of this year, he was detained in Georgia and extradited to Kazakhstan at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The suspect is currently being held in a pre-trial detention facility.
He faces a prison sentence of up to ten years.
Recall that since the beginning of the year, 7 people have been extradited from Georgia.
