Democrat Graham Platner held a meeting with voters in Portland, Maine on Sunday, drawing about 400 people. This comes days before the primary following reports about his past treatment of women. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Platner stated: "We will win on Tuesday, we will win in November and return power to the people in this country."
The New York Times reported that an ex-girlfriend accused Platner of grabbing her by the shoulders, twisting her arm, and locking her in a room. Platner denies these allegations. Other ex-girlfriends described him as hot-tempered and abusive. There were also reports that Platner exchanged explicit messages with several women while married.
Platner is trying to defeat longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins. He is still considered the favorite in the primary.
