A 24-year-old Kazakhstani has been sentenced to 125 years in prison in Greece. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kazakhstani is serving his sentence in the city of Trikala. He was convicted under the article on illegal transportation of migrants, which is classified as a serious crime. Additionally, he was fined nearly 1 billion tenge.
According to the convict's mother, her son responded to a social media advertisement about a job in Turkey. The job offered was to take tourists on boat rides. However, her son was accused of transporting migrants.
Also, during the investigation, there was no interpreter. As a result, her son was forced to sign documents under the threat of an increased sentence. The MFA reported that the Kazakhstani is receiving necessary consular and legal assistance.
