In Kazakhstan, the state provides quotas for certain categories of citizens when distributing educational grants. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the ministry, quotas apply to children from large families, orphans and children left without parental care, persons with disabilities, rural youth, and other categories provided by law.
Separate competition for each quota
The ministry explained that a separate competition is held for each quota among the respective participants. Therefore, passing scores may differ across categories, depending on the number of allocated grants and the results of the competition participants.
Quota does not mean automatic grant
"It is important to note that having a quota does not mean automatically receiving a grant. Within each quota, a competition is also held, and grants are awarded to participants with the highest results," the ministry said.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek explained why 120 points on the UNT are not always enough for a grant. He also comforted applicants who did not receive grants and their parents.
