Starting August 1, Hong Kong's "Cathay" airline plans to launch regular cargo flights to Astana. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The airline's regional manager for the Middle East, Oliver Coelho, announced these plans during a meeting with the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee, Saltanat Tompieva. Cargo flights will be operated on Boeing 747 aircraft with a frequency of up to 5 flights per week.
Additionally, starting January 2027, regular passenger flights on the Hong Kong – Almaty route are planned on Airbus A330 aircraft with a frequency of 3 flights per week, the ministry said.
Saltanat Tompieva stated that the Kazakh side is ready to provide the necessary support for the implementation of these projects. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint work on the procedures required to launch cargo and passenger flights, as well as to maintain close cooperation on developing air links between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
The opening of new flights will contribute to the further development of trade, economic, and tourism ties, expansion of logistics capabilities, and strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
