A new fast-charging system from Geely is capable of replenishing an electric vehicle's energy from 10% to 70% in just 4.5 minutes. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
It uses 2.2 MW charging infrastructure and a battery with a high energy intake rate, according to Reuters.
Performance at normal temperature
The battery can be charged to 97% in 8 minutes 40 seconds at normal ambient air temperature. At the same time, Geely unveiled the updated Galaxy EX5 electric crossover and a new generation of battery.
Temperature control is the main task
At such power, the main task becomes not only speed but also control of the battery's temperature and condition. That is why Geely uses AI both in the cloud system and directly in the vehicle.
The technology models the battery's operation and, using deep learning algorithms, monitors its condition, manages the temperature regime and predicts potential problems.
Competition with BYD
Apparently, the new system was a response to the development of fast charging at BYD. The company previously presented a technology capable of charging a battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. Thus, Chinese manufacturers are already competing not only on range and power but also on the charging speed of electric vehicles.
Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that the Geely Galaxy TT entered the Chinese market from 8.7 million tenge.
