Ukraine's membership in the European Union will not be discussed at the G7 summit taking place in France, European Council President Antonio Costa stated. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"We do not discuss internal matters of the European Union within the G7 framework," Costa said in response to a journalist's question about whether the issue of Kyiv's partial accession to the EU would be discussed at the summit.
According to him, the upcoming summit will discuss the issue of EU enlargement, but the EU's agenda includes the possibility of accession for Balkan countries and Moldova, in addition to Ukraine.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on June 12 that all EU countries agreed to open the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine and Moldova.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas admitted on February 15 that EU countries are not ready to set a date for Ukraine's accession. A number of European countries also oppose Kyiv's accession to the EU.
