Freedom X presented at the AI Digital Bridge forum in Astana a drone port of its own design — an automated point for receiving, storing and dispensing orders delivered by drones. It is planned to be installed and launched in Almaty in October 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the company, from January to August the service completed more than 1,000 drone deliveries, and in September it reached over 100 deliveries per day. In October, Freedom expects to increase their number to more than 150 per day and then grow the volume monthly.

Freedom X is a division of the Freedom holding engaged in research and development. The company calls the presented drone port the first in Kazakhstan for receiving and dispensing drone deliveries of its own design.

According to Freedom, the company was the first in the country to obtain a license for commercial drone flights. It is also training its own operators together with the Civil Aviation Academy. Regular commercial flights delivering goods to customers began on January 15, 2026.

The company notes that thanks to the launch of the project, Kazakhstan has joined the few countries in the world where grocery delivery by drones operates as a regular urban service.

The project is being developed with the support of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan. In December 2025, Freedom Lifestyle Group signed a memorandum with the ministry on the development of unmanned delivery services.

“To make drone delivery work in Kazakhstan, we had to do many things for the first time — be the first in the country to obtain a license for commercial flights, train the first drone operators together with the Civil Aviation Academy, and start delivering orders to customers by air. Now we are bringing our own drone port into the city. There are still few such services in the world, and in this technology Kazakhstan is not catching up, but setting the pace. Thanks to all government agencies that have walked this path together with us,” said Alexey Li, CEO of Freedom Lifestyle Group.

Currently, drones deliver orders from the Freedom Produkty online supermarket in four districts of Almaty: near MEGA Park shopping center, near the Air Terminal, in the Vesnovka area from Tole bi street, and in the private sector near warehouses on Muratbayev and Tauasaruly streets.

According to the company, the flight takes 15 minutes, the delivery distance reaches 4.5 km, and the order weight can be up to 10 kg.

Freedom attributes the growth in the number of deliveries to the expansion of the fleet, the development of the drone port network and the introduction of its own UTM unmanned traffic management system. By the end of 2026, the company plans to bring the fleet to approximately 60 drones.

“We made the first thousand deliveries in eight months, and in September we reached 100+ deliveries per day. This means that we have built up competencies, and now the volume that the team did in 8 months can be completed in 8-10 days. And 100 deliveries per day is not the limit. We are expanding the drone fleet, bringing drone ports into the city and scaling our own UTM system. The next goal is 200 orders per day, then we will aim for 500 and 1,000,” said Yerlan Yesimseitov, Executive Director of Freedom Lifestyle Group.

The device developed by the Freedom X team automatically receives a parcel from the drone, places it for storage and dispenses it to the client.

During delivery, the drone hovers over the drone port. The dome opens, the receiving platform takes the box, after which the lift lowers it inside. A robot platform moves the order to one of eight storage cells.

To receive the purchase, the client scans the QR code on the drone port via the Freedom SuperApp. The robot moves the order to the dispensing port, then the door opens. The parcel can be collected around the clock.

According to Freedom, the design protects orders from weather and unauthorized access. Cameras are installed inside and outside. The device is equipped with an uninterruptible power supply, position sensors for mechanisms and anti-pinch protection in the door area.

The company emphasizes that the forum showcased a ready-made solution, not a prototype. After the completion of AI Digital Bridge, the first drone port will be transported to Almaty for installation and launch.

By the end of the year, Freedom plans to produce at least three such devices. The company is already scaling production and is considering entering Shymkent with drone ports.

The development of the current version of the drone port took nine months. Since December 2025, the team has gone through the stages of creating the concept and architecture, manufacturing prototypes of individual modules, assembly and testing.

The frame, cladding, facade, dome and all internal mechanisms were designed by Freedom X specialists and produced in Kazakhstan. These include the receiving platform, lift, robot platform and dispensing port.

The software was also developed in-house. It includes algorithms for controlling mechanisms, a drone port management system and an API software interface connecting the device with the operator system and the application.

Standard components are imported from China, Germany and the Czech Republic: motors, sensors, controllers, bearings and drives. Robotics engineers — graduates of Kazakhstani universities — work on the project.

Freedom X has also developed an initial version of the UTM unmanned traffic management system. The company already uses and tests it on its own flights and drones.

According to Freedom, the system monitors the air situation, coordinates flights, prevents conflicts between drones and provides digital management of airspace at low altitudes. Freedom X drones and robots run on the software of the laboratory team.

Visitors to AI Digital Bridge can see the drone port at the Freedom X stand from October 1 to 3. At Digital Bridge 2025, the company presented its concept, and this year — a ready-made device that is planned to be launched in urban conditions after the forum.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Yandex Qazaqstan is preparing a pilot drone delivery project in one of the residential complexes of Almaty. The drone will transport orders from Yandex Lavka to a special site, from where a courier will deliver them to users' doors. Flights will begin after obtaining the necessary permits and approvals.
