Brazilian senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who lost the presidential election to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, arrived in Miami on October 28. He left Brazil without complying with the Supreme Court's requirement to surrender his passports, Reuters reports. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Argentina's migration service, on the evening of October 27, Bolsonaro crossed the country's border with his wife and two daughters. The family then flew by private jet to Guayaquil, Ecuador, from where they headed to the United States.

The State Department announced its intention to grant them entry visas. US President Donald Trump supported the senator's arrival.

Bolsonaro was supposed to hand over his passports as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering. However, the senator himself denies any violations. Meanwhile, Brazilian authorities annulled the senator's passports.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that in the October 25 election, Lula received 51.79% of the votes, while Bolsonaro — 48.21%.

The senator refused to concede defeat and demanded the annulment of the results due to the extension of voting by two hours after heavy rains and transport problems. The electoral court stated that the additional time did not affect the outcome. At the same time, Bolsonaro's Liberal Party recognized Lula's victory.

Flavio is the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for attempting a coup after his defeat in the 2022 election. Freeing his father was one of the senator's campaign promises.

In December 2025, Kursiv reported on a bill approved by congress that could reduce the former president's sentence to just over two years. The initiative sparked mass protests, and Lula announced his intention to veto it.
