Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine could resume in the near future. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"I would like Europe to return to negotiations and restore dialogue," he said at a forum at the Kultaranta presidential residence. According to Stubb, both diplomatic and informal contacts between European countries and Russia continue.
He also noted that at some point, dialogue will need to be resumed not only at the European level but also in a bilateral format between Moscow and Helsinki. On Wednesday, the Finnish president also said that the time has come for Europe to establish diplomatic dialogue with the Russian leadership.
In his opinion, European countries should coordinate their actions on this issue. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the Kremlin will not pay much attention to such initiatives until it is convinced of Europe's sincere intention to start negotiations.
