FBI Director Kash Patel told reporters on Thursday that law enforcement identified and foiled plans by individuals to attack the UFC Freedom 250 event, held on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14-15. Patel said the number of arrests and details are not yet disclosed, but the investigation is ongoing.
The UFC Freedom 250 event was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and UFC President and CEO Dana White. The event featured a featherweight bout between Diego Lopes and Steve Garcia. FBI Director Kash Patel also attended the show with Alexis Wilkins.
Security at the White House was heightened, and the UFC Fan Fest took place on June 13 on the White House Ellipse. Law enforcement agencies worked together to prevent the attacks.
