Kazakh judoka Fatima Supygalieva won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games held in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports confirmed the information. "In the final of the weight category up to 52 kilograms, our compatriot defeated Portugal's Sofia Gaspar and climbed to the highest step of the Olympic podium," the statement said.
Fatima had also dominated her opponents before the final. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Costa Rica's Jimena Morales Gamboa by ippon, and in the semifinals she overcame Slovakia's Viven Vadovicova.
Thus, Supygalieva became the champion of the Youth Olympic Games and added a gold medal to Kazakhstan's tally.
