The European Union's sanctions policy against Russia has not achieved its intended results, said Luxembourg Member of the European Parliament Fernand Kartheiser in an interview with RIA Novosti. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"In my opinion, this once again proves the uselessness of these sanctions, because they failed to achieve the set goals," Kartheiser said.
The European Union has adopted 20 sanctions packages against Russia since 2022 and continues to develop new ones. Recently, it became known that the EU is considering imposing sanctions on another 20 tankers suspected of ties with Russia as part of the 21st sanctions package.
Russia has repeatedly stated that it will withstand the Western sanctions pressure, which began several years ago and has been intensifying. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term Western strategy, and that sanctions have dealt a heavy blow to the entire global economy.
