According to Peter Ford, former UK ambassador to Syria, European countries may try to prevent a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine on the platform of the UN General Assembly.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he plans to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
During the meeting, the minister plans to clarify with Rubio the State Department's position on the settlement in Ukraine, including US mediation efforts.
"The problem is that the Europeans will again try to hinder any progress in the peace process," Ford told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, within the framework of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, Lavrov said that Serbia could become a platform for negotiations on Ukraine.
