Russia has accepted the US leader's proposals regarding Alaska, but European allies of US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky are trying to persuade him to abandon these proposals, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"We accepted Trump's proposals on Alaska. His European allies and Zelensky himself are trying to push Trump to abandon these proposals," Lavrov said at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
On August 15, 2025, negotiations between the presidents of Russia and the United States took place in Alaska. The presidents discussed ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Both leaders gave a positive assessment of the meeting.
Later, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov explained that the "Spirit of Anchorage" (in his words) refers to the set of agreements reached during the Russia-US negotiations in Alaska.
