In London and Shenzhen, two team tennis tournaments – the Laver Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup – concluded with victories for the men's Team Europe and the women's Czech team. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

In both the United Kingdom and China, the final days were cut short. The winners were determined early.

Laver Cup: Europe takes the trophy for the sixth time

After German Alexander Zverev lost to Australian Alex de Minaur, Europe won four matches in a row and claimed the trophy for the sixth time.

For a win in each match on the first day, the team received 1 point. Each victory on the second day was worth 2 points. On the third day, the value of a win rose to three points. According to the rules, the team that first reached 13 points won.

The Laver Cup, named after the famous Australian tennis player Rod Laver (now 88), was held for the ninth time. It featured six European tennis players and the same number of athletes representing the rest of the world.

Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik, who debuted in the tournament, lost all his matches.

BJK Cup: Czech Republic wins the trophy for the 11th time

The final tournament of the women's Billie Jean King Cup also featured representatives of our tennis. The Kazakhstan team (Yulia Putintseva, Sonya Zhiyenbayeva, Anna Danilina and Zhibek Kulambayeva) lost to Spain in a dramatic quarterfinal battle. Then the full squad headed to the Asian Games in Japan.

The Spaniards, in turn, lost their semifinal to the Czechs. The chain of failures ended in the final. The Czech Republic, as expected, claimed the main trophy by defeating Ukraine.

Interestingly, the world's No. 1 doubles player Katerina Siniakova never played in Shenzhen. The Czechs won all their matches with singles players only.

In the final, Karolina Muchova (8) defeated Angelina Kalinina (47) – 6:2, 6:3, and Linda Noskova (6) beat Elina Svitolina (7) – 6:3, 7:6 (7:5). The doubles match was not needed.
