The European Union's Special Envoy for Sanctions David O'Sullivan admitted that Europe's sanctions against Russia have no legal force and are justified only through the support of partners. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to O'Sullivan, because the sanctions have no UN mandate and therefore no legal force under international law, the "moral and economic power of sanctions" is only possible thanks to a broad coalition.

Earlier, on June 18-19, at a summit in Brussels, EU leaders reached a political agreement to extend economic sanctions for one year instead of the traditional six months. Additionally, EU countries called for the accelerated adoption of the 21st package of restrictive measures against Russia.

Russia has repeatedly stated that it will withstand the Western sanctions pressure that began several years ago. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term Western strategy, and that sanctions have dealt a severe blow to the entire global economy.
