The Council of the European Union has officially extended the economic sanctions imposed on Russia over the conflict in Ukraine for one year, until July 31, 2027. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to a statement from the EU's legislative body, "The Council today extended the EU's restrictive measures for another 12 months, until July 31, 2027, in response to the actions of the Russian Federation destabilizing the situation in Ukraine."
The Council recalled that the current restrictions apply to trade, the financial sector, energy, dual-use technologies, and imports of Russian oil and petroleum products, and include restrictions on a number of Russian banks and media outlets. The statement also indicated that the EU is ready to adopt additional measures.
At the summit in Brussels on June 18-19, EU leaders reached a political agreement to extend the economic sanctions for one year instead of six months and called for the accelerated adoption of the 21st package of restrictive measures against Russia.
In turn, Russia has repeatedly stated that the country will withstand the Western sanctions pressure, which began several years ago and continues to intensify.
