The European Union plans to request about 20-25 billion euros from the United Kingdom and Canada for Ukraine by 2027, while Japan and Australia may also provide a small amount of assistance. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Earlier, the Financial Times, citing a European Commission forecast, reported that Kiev's allies outside the EU had pledged to allocate 4 billion euros in 2027, while this year the figure was 19 billion euros, about five times less.
According to the forecast, the combined contribution of four G7 countries - the US, UK, Canada and Japan - will be only 1 billion euros, the newspaper reported.
"The EU will certainly ask the UK and Canada for about 20-25 billion euros for Ukraine next year at upcoming summits. Vladimir Zelensky requested about 70 billion euros for next year. At the same time, Japan and Australia may provide a small amount of assistance, and the rest of the funds may be provided by the EU," a source told the publication.
According to the newspaper, the issue will be discussed at the EU-Canada summit in Montreal on October 29-30 and at a meeting with the British on November 20.
Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder a settlement and directly draw NATO countries into the conflict. The Kremlin has stated that Western arming of Ukraine negatively affects negotiations.
