The European Commission, as reported by RIA Novosti, has received a letter from several EU countries urging to resume work on using frozen Russian assets. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"We can confirm that we have received the letter. We have nothing to add to what was said at yesterday's briefing," the European Commission's press service told RIA Novosti.
A day earlier, EU representative Balazs Ujvari stated that the issue of using frozen Russian assets has never been removed from the EU agenda. He also added that if a letter arrives, the EU will respond to it "in due time."
Earlier, the Financial Times reported that Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, and Poland plan to send a letter urging to resume work on options for using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. According to the publication, the countries also called for exploring alternative legal mechanisms for using these funds.
Moscow has repeatedly called the freezing of Russian assets in Europe illegal.
