A 41-year-old resident of Astana miscalculated his strength while attempting to swim across the Yesil River under the Arys Bridge and nearly drowned. Rescuers nearby quickly reacted and pulled the drowning man from the water. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Incident Details
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the incident occurred in the Saraiyk area under the Arys Bridge. The man attempted to swim across the Yesil River but could not reach the shore on his own.
"In the Saraiyk area under the Arys Bridge, a man attempted to swim across the Yesil River. However, he could not get out of the water on his own," the statement said.
Rescuers' Response
Rescuers from the MES operational rescue team, who were on duty in the area, saw the man starting to drown and quickly responded. Using a lifebuoy, they pulled the swimmer out of the water.
The rescued man was born in 1985. After being pulled from the river, he was handed over to medical workers for further examination.
Safety Reminder
In turn, the rescuers appealed to residents and guests of the capital. They reminded Kazakhstani citizens of the importance of following water safety rules and advised them not to tempt fate.
