The leadership of the People's Party of Kazakhstan (PPK) has changed. At an extraordinary congress in Astana, delegates elected Nursultan Shokanov as the new chairman of the PPK. Yermukhamet Yertysbayev, who had led the party for the past three years, left his post. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Summing up his work as chairman, Yertysbayev stated that during this time the party had strengthened its positions and become a place where people turn for help in solving specific problems.

"Today, the People's Party is a place where people come for help. And this is the main result of our work," said Yertysbayev.

According to him, deputies of the PPK faction have sent 591 parliamentary requests to the government since the beginning of the 8th convocation, reflecting the most pressing appeals from citizens. During the same period, more than 43,000 new members joined the party.

Speaking about his resignation as chairman, Yertysbayev called the change of leadership a natural stage in the development of a political organization.

"Any stage of development requires renewal. This is a natural process without which forward movement is impossible," he stated.

Following the vote, Nursultan Shokanov was elected as the new chairman of the People's Party of Kazakhstan. Introducing his successor, Yertysbayev noted his experience in party and managerial work.

Nursultan Shokanov was born in Almaty in 1986. He graduated from KIMEP with a degree in Finance and later earned an Executive MBA in Switzerland. He worked at the international auditing company Ernst & Young and the oil service company Sandrilling, after which he engaged in entrepreneurial activities.

Since 2021, Shokanov was a deputy of the Almaty maslikhat from the PPK, and from December 2022 he headed first the city and then the regional party branches in Almaty. Later, he became deputy chairman of the board of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken".

During the congress, delegates also approved a new version of the party's charter and updated PPK branding.
