The first sets of medals at the World Youth (under 20) Wrestling Championship were contested in Bratislava. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler Yerkebulan Anapiya came within a step of bronze in the weight category up to 77 kg.
The Asian youth vice-champion started the tournament with a victory over Ogharbek Askaraliev from Uzbekistan – 10:4. He then lost to Azerbaijani Javidan Nakhmatov – 5:7. After defeating Greek wrestler Admantios Papadatos 8:1 in the consolation bout, our wrestler earned the right to compete for bronze.
Yerkebulan's opponent Amir Mahdi Mohammad Saedi Nava from Iran proved stronger, winning the third-place match with a score of 5:3.
Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestlers Dias Kertai (63 kg), Alikhan Tagaev (87 kg) and Bakhtiyar Kaziev (130 kg), having lost in the 1/8 finals, did not participate in the medal contention.
About 700 young athletes from around the world gathered for the World Youth Championship under the auspices of the International Wrestling Federation (UWW), which started in the capital of Slovakia. They will compete for 120 medals in three types of wrestling – Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's. Kazakhstan is represented in Bratislava by 30 athletes – 20 boys and 10 girls.
