The European Union is defending its digital tax approach and says it is ready to respond if U.S. President Donald Trump takes countermeasures. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Reuters.

EU Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni told a press conference in Brussels that the EU's approach to taxing digital services is fair and balanced. He stressed that the EU is prepared to counter potential tariffs or other measures by Trump.

"We defend our approach and are ready to act if necessary," Gentiloni said. He also noted that the EU intends to continue dialogue with the U.S. to avoid transatlantic trade disputes.

The digital tax issue remains a key point of tension between the EU and the U.S. Trump has previously expressed opposition to the EU's digital tax, saying it unfairly targets American technology companies.
