The incident occurred on July 1, 2026. Two individuals ascended to the spire of the skyscraper, located at a height of approximately 443 meters, and displayed a banner reading: 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.'
They were later identified as famous Russian roofers Ivan Birkus and Angela Nikolau. During the action, the man proposed marriage to his companion. They gained access to the antenna through a technical hatch on the 102nd floor, which is used for servicing the water tower.
According to Fox News, a police helicopter monitored the situation. After descending from the top of the skyscraper, both participants were detained by New York police officers. Police confirmed that two people were taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
According to media reports, in New York, suspects in such cases are often released on bail within 24–48 hours.
